Thursday, 8 October 2015A female Sulawesi Crested Macaque, born July 21, is the first macaque birth at Dudley Zoological Gardens, in the UK, in three and a half years!
читать дальшеSome visitors were lucky enough to witness the amazing birth, and shortly afterwards, keen photographer and Dudley Zoological Gardens (DZG) member, Kathryn Willett, snapped a beautiful family portrait of the little one with mum Jasmine and dad Simon.
The tiny macaque has been hugely popular at Dudley Zoo, and once keepers discovered her sex, she was given the moniker 'Summer', in honor of her time of birth.
The Sulawesi Crested Macaque (Macaca nigra) is also known as the Celebes Crested Macaque, Crested Black Macaque, or the black ape, and it is native to the northeast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi (Celebes), as well as on smaller neighboring islands.
These pink-bottomed, punk-haired primates are the most endangered of the seven macaque species. They are listed as “Critically Endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.Выглядят испуганно!
