Пишет Sumire Takarai:The Great Gatsby VFX
The house was actually a huge set build but scattered due to the scale and shooting schedule of single components.
For Example:
The gates to Gatsby's mansion where shot in a park near the studios.
The front facade of Gatsby's mansion was a school in Manly with 3d extensions.
The garden was 3d.
The hallway, ballroom, organ, stairs, breakfast balcony and dance area was stage 1.
(Stage 1 build alone was in the order of 40yds by 80 yds by 13 yds high).
Matching stairs and pool was stage 2.
Beach was from Doll's Point.
The wharf was stage 3, 4 and then 2 at various times.
And Nick's Bungalow next door was stage 3, Centennial Park and Mount Wilson.
So in reality a lot was made but because of the scale rarely together. Also please understand that when building mansions, Long Island or New York you can never build enough no matter what the budget.
The cars were scanned to within 1 or 2 mm tolerance and Animal made a 3d model for each car exactly matching the paint and chrome, also the wood and leather trims. And remember that these were all hand made cars so mirror replication was impossible. Also we had 2 Duesy's so we had to scan and made both in 3d because of inconsistancies.
The tracking of the 3d car over the shot car was also a problem in stereo but often the metadata from the 3ality rig gave a second eye offset for tracking. And if you look carefully the reflections were not added, instead more often than not the actors were held and the car totally replaced.
